Ball & Chain Cake

So you’re looking at these cakes probably wondering “What a novel idea for somebody getting out of jail.” or “Is this what the cake industry is coming to, Early Release Celebrations?“  Well, not exactly. Nick/Amber as well as Joe/Heather aren’t exactly busting out of “the slammer”, they are headed down the somewhat similar path we refer to as “getting married”.  These two cakes were inspired by a new client of ours who wanted to make each of the couple’s engagement parties a little “different” and poke a little fun at the same time. The cakes colors reflect each of their wedding’s color schemes.  The ball on each of the cakes is made from solid milk chocolate and the chains & bracelet are fondant.

Dual purpose ball & chain engagement or early release from jail cake

So, not to leave those of you out who happen to know of somebody coming due for early release from jail and want to make that special day as one to remember, give us a call.  The sky’s the limit on the number of other concepts we can come up with. Keep in mind that we have two heavily armed police officers located across the street from us, and they like our cakes.

Cake designed for HGTV's Kim Myles

Cake designed for HGTV's Kim Myles

Created exclusively for a new partnership with our Queen of Style, Kim Myles and Lowe’s, this cake represents the work Kim will be doing with Lowe’s Home Improvement over the next few months.  Kim’s motto: “No Budget? No Problem. It’s in the bag!!” will demonstrate how easy it is to makeover a room in a big way with as few funds as possible & Lowe’s offering the supplies necessary.

The cake is  half chocolate & half golden yellow with our signature butter cream recipe covered in fondant. The design was inspired to capture Kim’s HGTV website‘s color pallet hiding under the Lowe’s pagoda as it is peeled back. I had a lot of fun building this cake and must thank Sandy Culver of Lowe’s Creative Ideas for the recommendations she made.  Without her, the cake would probably been a huge multi-colored race car of some type.

UPDATE: Oct, 12 2009:

We had a GREAT time with Kim and what an absolutely  fun person she is.  Kim’s very down to earth and what you see on her show is exactly who she is in real life. I gained some fantastic insight to how she got the opportunity to be selected and ultimately win “Design Star” season 2 on HGTV.  Quite simply, she’s a great inspiration for anyone that loves what they do.  Certainly hope we can make a cake for her again the future.  Look for Kim featured on Lowes.com where she will be featuring some really unique & easy to do ideas for decorating your home for the holidays, on a budget.

Corporate Lowes Cake

Corporate Lowes Cake

This monster of a cake took over 8 lbs of sugar just to ice & two dozen eggs to complete. Final weight tipped the scales at a healthy 18 pounds when it was completed.  Over 80 people on the Lowes.com team tackled this custom cake in just under 30 minutes. (Mainly due to the line) I’d like to thank Jeanie Boykin for letting me design and feature this cake at our team’s event.
