Golf Ball Cake
Weighing in at a healthy 19 pounds, this Golf Ball Cake was designed and completed for a new client (Mr. & Misses H.) here in Charlotte, NC area. This cake was actually 28 inches long, one foot high and rolling through the cake is part Almond & part Vanilla layered in think levels of our proprietary butter cream icing. The fondant I used on this cake is marshmallow based so it tastes extraordinary. Mark & Lisa, again thank you so much and let us know if we can help you out in the future with a custom creation of our own.
Over The Hill Birthday Cake
This birthday cake was designed for a new client of Kenfections in Texas!! Candace came to Charlotte for a weekend and needed a custom cake done in a relatively short notice. Rocky, the 57 year young birthday man works out as you can probably figure. The cake is a 1/2 sheet almond flavored cake iced in our signature butter cream icing. The figure, looking like he dropped the barbell, is made from gum paste. (Yes, Candace requested the blue) Not sure what it is but everybody has been wanting a blue cake for the past few months. Thank you Candace and look forward to having you back in Charlotte again.
Mocha Ganache Cake
Now a repeat client of ours, Gloria B. from New York called us back for yet another Mocha Ganache yellow cake. This time we made a traditional Mocha Butter Cream icing typically found up north and added Starbucks espresso. This chocolate ganache contains a hint of Bacardi dark rum and covers the 10 inch round yellow cake which contains a 3/4 inch layer of our Mocha/Butter Cream Icing made with Starbucks espresso set between the two halves of the cake. This cake can serve 16 guests but only one ate it. Yes, Gloria had the cake all to herself.
Thank You Gloria for selecting us yet again.
I.E.D. “Hurt Locker” Bomb Cake
So before you ask “What in the world are you thinking Ken?”, let me explain. A new customer in Virginia Beach found us on google and was trying to determine if we could make a roadside bomb themed cake for a party in Charlotte. (Not your everyday request in the cake world but Scarlet’s husband Chad happens to be an EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) Technician for the U.S. Navy. Bet you didn’t know that I too was one of these guys at one point in my life? However, my bombs came in the form of toddler diapers I got to dispose of for too many years. I retired from that “duty” a year or so ago but they were every bit as volatile.
Anyhow, I digress. If you get the privilege to see the Academy Award Nominated movie, “Hurt Locker”, Chad is one of the real life guys who diffuses roadside bombs, car bombs and other nasty terrorist ordinance in order to clear paths for U.S. forces and Iraqi civilians. I highly recommend seeing the movie. It is my honor to have not only been asked to create this cake, but be selected to design and produce this replica of what Chad will be disposing of throughout his upcoming tour in Iraq. I’m pretty sure I have the terrorists beat on the taste of these things but Chad will be reporting back. The base of the cake is golden vanilla covered in our signature butter cream icing and topped with graham cracker dust which gives it the sandy appearance. The mortar shells are Rice Krispy treats covered in fondant. The cell phone “switch” and power supply are gum paste. The wires leading to the bomb are actually glowing since this cake is presented at night.
Again, it was our honor to create this hurt locker themed cake from concept to delivered product. When Chad gets back from his tour in Iraq, part 2 of his cake story will continue here. I’m already brainstorming ideas. I would encourage you post your gratitude to Chad in the comments section below for his extraordinary service to our country and people like him enabling us to live in a country where a trip to Lowe’s, Wal-Mart, School or the Indy 500 is still safe.
Tiger Woods Golf Cake
This Tiger Woods inspired birthday golf cake was for a brand new client of ours located 800 miles away in Florida!! While we never met prior in person, Jamie S. found us on google and flew all the way up to Charlotte for her brother’s 40th birthday party where we delivered the cake. The fairway is golden vanilla cake covered in our secret recipe butter cream icing and topped with fondant as well as piping gel. The elevated green where Tiger is lining up his shot, is actually a chocolate cake covered in our secret butter cream icing recipe and topped with fondant. We really enjoyed creating this project for Jamie and her family and would like to thank them for choosing us but more importantly trusting Kenfections for their custom cake when all they ever experienced was our website.
